89.9 WWNO is pleased to announce the third season of "Louisiana Artist", the award-winning radio series exploring contemporary art and artists in New Orleans and Louisiana. The season opens with a profile of John Geldersma on Wednesday afternoon, August 11th, at 4:50 p.m.

"Louisiana Artist" is an on-going series of in-depth profiles of some of New Orleans' and Louisiana's most accomplished and influential artists. Each profile introduces a single artist in conversation with series host Jacqueline Bishop. WWNO Program Director Fred Kasten is the Executive Producer for "Louisiana Artist." "I'm certain that our listeners will continue to enjoy and appreciate the knowledge, warmth, and insight Jacqueline Bishop brings to these profiles," says Kasten, who adds, "Jacqueline combines a deep knowledge of the subject with the willingness to let her guests hold center stage. That's rare and we feel very fortunate to have her working with us at WWNO." In addition to the conversation with John Geldersma on August 11th - the season will include profiles of John Barnes, Jr. (September 1st); Martin Payton (October 6th); Josephine Sacabo (November 3rd); Keith Perelli (December 1st); Alan Gerson (January 5, 2005); Christopher Saucedo (February 5, 2005); George Dureau (March 2, 2005); Sybille Peretti (April 6, 2005); and Gene Koss (May 4, 2005).

About the Host

Jacqueline Bishop brings the experience and perspective of more than two decades as a working artist to these conversations, (she is represented in New Orleans by the Arthur Roger Gallery and her work is known and collected nationally and internationally) and she is thoroughly versed in the ideas and personalities integral to contemporary art. Ms. Bishop knows the New Orleans and Louisiana art scenes inside out, and is a skilled interviewer - knowledge and skill she developed through six years of organizing and administering the highly successful ArtSpeak program at the Contemporary Arts Center. ArtSpeak is a monthly moderated forum that presents three Louisiana artists. Each artist shows slides of, and discusses, their work for an audience of other artists and art aficionados. Ms. Bishop started, and nurtured, ArtSpeak as a means for artists to have a direct voice in describing and defining their work. She aims to bring that same sort of direct communication from artists to WWNO listeners through "Louisiana Artist." "I'm very pleased," says Bishop, "to continue to have this opportunity through WWNO to connect Louisiana artists with their community ."
