Bard Early College Announces Full-Day Program

BECNO
Students at Bard Early College.

Many people boast about wanting “education for all,” but when asked what that looks like, they’re not exactly sure of the details. The educational vision of Nicole Young is clear. She's the Executive Director of Bard Early College in New Orleans. In this edition of Notes from New Orleans, Kelley Crawford invites Nicole to share Bard's big news.

Correction: An earlier version of this piece included an assertion that Bard is the only high school program in Louisiana to grant Associate's Degrees.  However, The Early College Academy, opened by The Lafayette Parish School Board in the 2008-2009 school year, also graduates their students with both a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree.

Kelley Crawford is a professor of composition at Bard Early College New Orleans, a columnist, writer, and managing editor for NolaVie, as well as a freelance radio host for WWNO. She also spends her professional time as the president of Shotgun Cinema. When she isn't being all professional, you can find her dancing in parades with the dance krewe, Cosmonaughties, traveling while writing young adult books, and volunteering at WRBH, Reading Radio for the Blind and Print Impaired. She has a weekly column entitled "Artists in Their Own Words," where she asks a-typical questions to artists around New Orleans. To contact Kelley, you can email her at kelley@nolavie.com
