Boy, 5, killed in hit & run accident

State police says they have arrested the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Jefferson Parish that claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy.

Trooper Melissa Matey tells The Times-Picayune charges are pending.

The incident occurred about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday on Jefferson Highway. Matey says the child died at a near-by hospital.

She says the driver was apprehended shortly after the accident. Troopers have not released the names of the victim or the driver.

The accident remains under investigation.
