Bring Your Own Presents: 'Library Runaway'

Sophie Lucido Johnson

Bring Your Ownis a nomadic storytelling series that takes place in living rooms, backyards and other intimate spaces within the community. Each month, eight storytellers have seven minutes to respond to a theme. BYO airs on All Things New Orleans and is a biweekly podcast on WWNO.org.

On May 2 you can vote on future funding for the public library system in New Orleans. It's called a Millage Proposition.

Back in February, the New Orleans library celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Turn The Page campaign, which has a goal to make New Orleans the most literate city in America by its 300th birthday in 2018. BYO was part of this celebration held at the library’s main branch, along with Irvin Mayfield, Leah Chase, 2-cent, and others that were there to promote reading to an audience of elementary school students. Sophie Lucido Johnson told this story to the kid crowd about her own love affair with libraries.

Bring Your Own is a production of Laine Kaplan-Levenson. The next BYO will take place on Thursday, June 18 in partnership with Life of the Law. The theme is "Eye Witness." For more information, check out the NEW WEBSITE!
