EnrollNOLA Releases First School Enrollment Report

Back in 2011, New Orleans created a centralized school enrollment system. Today the team behind that system — EnrollNOLA — released its first annual report.

According to the report, more than 10,000 students applied for school last year during the main enrollment round. 82 percent were matched with a school on their list.

That percentage doesn't include some of the 8,000 students who participated in the late enrollment process — students who missed the main enrollment rounds, just moved to the city, or sought another placement.

Kristen Morgan is Executive Director of Student Enrollment with EnrollNOLA. She says more families are applying earlier this year.

"We're definitely trending high, a little bit over 50 percent increase from last year," she says. "I think families have started to submit their applications earlier to ensure that they have a placement."

The report also includes information about how many families apply for schools outside their neighborhood, and how many siblings end up at school together.

This story has been updated to reflect the following clarification: 8,000 students participated in a final, late school enrollment period in 2014 — a first-come, first-served enrollment process that takes place after the main application rounds have closed.
