August's classical music languor will be relieved on August 18 when the new Crescent City Chamber Music Festival (CCCMF) debuts at 6 p.m. with a concert in an unorthodox venue, the Urban South Brewery, 1645 Tchoupitoulas Street. The performance will be free, with food served afterward and special beer flights available for purchase.

Two more free performances follow on August 19 and 21 in more traditional venues: Tulane's Dixon Hall and the Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church.

The Festival's ensemble-in-residence is the Manhattan Chamber Players, a non-profit collective of young New York-based musicians and composers, each of them highly accomplished as independent soloists and chamber musicians. Formed in 2015 by violist Luke Fleming, a New Orleans native and Julliard graduate, the Manhattan Chamber Players incorporates strings, woodwinds, and piano, providing it the versatility to perform a wide-ranging chamber music repertoire.

Fleming and his colleagues share the desire to lift the human spirit through outstanding music, and while in New Orleans they will fulfill that aim through the Crescent City Festival's free performances at fourteen area nursing homes, churches, hospitals, schools, and other charities.

Details about the CCCMF's public performances, including background information and programs, is at crescentcitychambermusicfestival.com.

WWNO is pleased to help sponsor this new music festival, which shares our aim to benefit the metropolitan New Orleans community by making great music more widely available to all.
