Kingsley House Hosts 4th Annual Friendraiser Luncheon

The Kingsley House is holding its 4th Annual Friendraiser Luncheon on April 30, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Known as 'the oldest settlement house in the South', Kingsley House was founded in 1896 and started off as a settlement house for immigrants to overcome language cultural and social barriers as they came to settle in New Orleans.

Today, the mission is to educate children, strengthen families and improve community.  The organization  achieves this through childcare, healthcare for adults and seniors, after school teen programs, family counseling services... and that’s just the shortlist.

The Friendraiser is an awareness and fundraiser event, with each board member tasked to invite people to come and learn about New Orleans and the work done at Kingsley House. Beyond conversation and networking opportunities, the food and décor is also bound to impress; lunch will take place in the old gymnasium, which was built in 1832, and local culinary royaltyDonald Link (of Herbsaint, Butcher, and Cochon) is serving up the menu. There will also be theatrical and dance performances, "So you will see and hear from the people who are part of our programs," says Vice President of the Board Miles Thomas.

Thomas explains that a main goal is always to expose people to Kingsley House and what they do, but this fundraiser is to strengthen existing relationships. "So much about successful nonprofits is the relationships in the community, because so much of the support that non-profits need come from those relationships," he says.  So whether  already a friend, or looking to make some, if you’re free for lunch it’s not too late to RSVP – call Communications and Events Director Gina Jackson at(504) 523-6221 ext. 127  or email her here.

For those who have an interest in Kingsley house but can’t make the event, the organization hosts monthly tours of the facility, and all are welcome to attend.

Kingsley House is sponsored by Bellwether Technology, Bertucci and Labiche Private Wealth Management, DMM Associates, Entergy, Freeman Decorating Company, IBERIABANK, ILA Local 3000, Kullman Firm, Landmark Consulting, Link Restaurant Group, McAlister's Deli, Dr. Joel and Bert Myers, Protocol Construction,  Second Line Stages, Smallpage Family Foundation, Swanson Insurance, Trapolin Peer Architects, Tonry, Brinson & Glorioso LLC , Tapestry Linens, Whitney Bank, and Valero.
