New Orleans Asks Congress To Keep ACA

New Orleans Mitch Landrieu and city councilmembers are asking Washington leaders to block any attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

New Orleans lawmakers sent a letter to Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. They want to block any repeal of health insurance known as Obamacare without a better alternative.

At least one in five Louisiana residents relies on the Affordable Care Act for coverage. Mayor Landrieu says more than 70,000 people in New Orleans now have health insurance under Obamacare. The uninsured rate in New Orleans has dropped to an all-time low -- from 24 percent to 13 percent since 2013.

Landrieu is now the vice president of the U-S Conference of Mayors. That group – which represents 1,400 cities with at least 30,000 residents -- is also urging Congress to block a health care repeal.
