Police Want Leads On Baton Rouge Shooter's Actions And Motive

The investigation into the deadly Baton Rouge police shootings is focusing on what prompted the attacker to open fire.

State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says he wants people throughout Louisiana to report any information they have on how Gavin Long came to Baton Rouge. They believe the 29-year-old drove from Dallas.

“We want to look at the footprint of that car. Where has it been? Where has it traveled to? Who did he contact? Who did he talk with along the way? Any cell phone information we can extract, and work on that,” he said.

Edmonson says Long’s motive is also a mystery.

“Why did he come to Baton Rouge? Why’d he pick that location right there," he said, "and why did he kill police officers?”

Officials yesterday provided the first detailed accounts of the shooting scene, using a map to describe the attack. Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie wouldn't say who was shot at which location, and he hasn't named his wounded officer.
