A true New Orleanian, Milton G. Scheuermann, Jr. was born on Mardi Gras Day. He began performing and teaching piano at the age of thirteen, but waited until his army years in Germany to begin performing early music. In 1966 he founded the early music ensemble, the New Orleans Musica da Camera, and continues directing the ensemble today with Thais St. Julien. His radio career began in the early 1960s, when he hosted a program for The New Orleans Classical Music Society on a local AM station. He has been affiliated with WWNO since 1976, having produced weekly programs for The New Orleans Friends of Music, The American Guild of Organists, and for the past 23 years, the weekly Musica da Camera program, now called "Continuum."
This Renaissance man is Professor of Architecture at the Tulane University School of Architecture (on the faculty since 1959), where he teaches architectural graphics and 3D representation, photography and calligraphy. He is University Architect at Dillard University and is also affiliated with two distance learning institutions based in the United Kingdom: Professor of the University and Honorary Doctor of the University at Fairfax University; and Dean of the Architecture Faculty of William Bradford University, which also awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Music. Milton builds many of the instruments used by the Musica da Camera, as well as transcribing much of the music from original manuscript sources. He has a deep interest in early musical notation and medieval musical manuscripts. He also maintains a private studio of piano, recorder, and harpsichord students and is organist at St. John Lutheran Church. In addition, he is an active member of both the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Milton can also sing (from memory) every word of Wagner's Ring Cycle!
