Production Manager
Jenni Lawson
Jenni Lawson is a native of Newport Beach, CA but grew up in
Maine, New York, North Carolina and Baton Rouge before moving to New Orleans in
1990. She began her radio career at KLSU in 1985 while in her first year
attending LSU. After earning an Associate Degree in Television Production (and
the Highest Scholastic Award) from an independent college in 1989, Jenni
graduated with a degree in Drama and Communications from UNO in 1995,
maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her major. During her UNO years, she was a production
assistant at WWNO, taking over the duties of Production Manager in 1994. Upon
graduation, the position was officially given to Jenni, who has been here in
that capacity ever since.
Among the many duties performed by Jenni are the recording
and production of Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra performances, as well as
Friends of Music, Musical Excursions, and other concerts for broadcast on WWNO’s
Concert Night New Orleans. She produces the broadcasts for Continuum and the
syndicated program Rendez-Vous, and also provides engineering for WWNO
Production Studio rentals and ISDN interviews for nationally-syndicated
programs. For several weeks during the immediate post-Katrina period, Jenni
worked in a similar capacity at KUHF 87.7 FM in Houston and was able to exchange
ideas and techniques with their production staff.
In addition to her WWNO work, Jenni performs freelance audio
production work for NPR, PRI, the CBC, the BBC, and others. She also works as a
radio engineer for the New Orleans Hornets, being one of only two women to serve
as courtside radio broadcast engineer in the NBA, and additionally performs
similar work for visiting AFL teams during New Orleans VooDoo games. In 2004
Jenni was named to Gambit Weekly’s “40 Under 40” list of outstanding people in
New Orleans who are under 40 years old.
Jenni has been married for 17 years to rocket scientist
Barry, and has one son, budding musician Logan.
