Jindal's Former Revenue Secretary Headed to California

BATON ROUGE — Gov. Bobby Jindal's former revenue secretary, who resigned after a dispute over a tax break interpretation, has a new job in California. Cynthia Bridges has been named executive director of the California State Board of Equalization, an elected body that administers sales and use taxes in that state.

Gov. Jindal Strips Dollars From Critic's Budget

BATON ROUGE — Treasurer John Kennedy, a critic of the Jindal administration's financial policies, has found his budget cut with Gov. Bobby Jindal's line-item veto.

In his veto message, Jindal said he's stripping more than $511,000 from Kennedy's budget next year to "streamline" the agency, to reflect spending patterns over the last three years and to strip money for four vacant jobs.

Kennedy's office will have a $12.2 million budget in the fiscal year that begins July 1, compared to $12.7 million this year, a 4 percent reduction, according to the treasurer's office.

Second teacher union will sue over Jindal's plan

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Association of Educators says it too will file suit to throw out a set of sweeping education changes pushed by Gov. Bobby Jindal and passed by lawmakers in the just-ended legislative session.

Directors of the teachers union voted Saturday to file suit over changes to the state's elementary and secondary school funding formula that will pay for a statewide voucher program, online schools, college tuition scholarships and an expansion of charter schools.
