Mandatory evacuation ordered for east bank of Plaquemines Parish

Plaquemines Parish officials have ordered a mandatory evacuation of the east bank of the parish, in advance of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Additionally, there will be a voluntary evacuation for the south end of Plaquemines Parish, from Ironton to Venice. Belle Chasse Auditorium will be opened at noon on Monday as an emergency shelter.

All Plaquemines Parish schools have been closed until further notice.

St. Charles Parish announces mandatory evacuation

The St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center has called a mandatory evacuation for both East and West Bank residents as of 6 p.m. Aug. 26 due to the threat of dangerous storm surge and winds from Tropical Storm Isaac. Jefferson Parish declares State of Emergency

Jefferson Parish has declared a State of Emergency in advance of the effect of Tropical Storm Isaac, the parish said in a press release.

Parish President John Young signed the emergency declaration earlier this afternoon, and the parish's Emergency Management office will be closely monitoring the storm, the parish said.

All pump stations requiring manning will be fully staffed for the duration of the storm and its aftermath.

Grand Isle evacuating; hurricane warning in SE Louisiana

Evacuation has begun on Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island as Tropical Storm Isaac's path moves west, and was ordered Monday for about 2,000 Plaquemines Parish residents.

Gov. Bobby Jindal called a state of emergency, suggesting people leave low-lying parts of 15 coastal parishes where the National Weather Service called a hurricane warning. He says that if Isaac remains a threat to Louisiana, he may skip the Republican National Convention.
