Former Rep. Jefferson to Serve Sentence in 2 Weeks

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A former Louisiana congressman will have to begin serving a 13-year prison sentence for taking bribes and other crimes within two weeks.

Democrat William Jefferson was convicted in 2009 but has been free on bond while appealing his case. The case drew headlines when FBI agents found $90,000 cash hidden in Jefferson's freezer.

Recovery Money Redirected to Superdome Upgrades

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Jindal administration has gotten permission to redirect federal hurricane recovery money from housing aid programs to Superdome upgrades. Federal approval was discussed Thursday in the Senate Finance Committee.

Small Plane Sinks into Gulf; Lost Pilot Contact

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a pilot flying a Cessna across the Gulf of Mexico stopped responding to radio calls including those from two F-15 aviators who flew alongside and monitored the plane for hours before it crashed into the water. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the plane was headed from Slidell, La., to Sarasota, Fla.

Senator Landrieu Says Oil Spill Recovery Has Been Slow

Two years after the deadly Deepwater Horizon explosion, Louisiana’s Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu says the recovery has been slow. The senator receives hundreds of calls a month reporting troubles still caused by the BP oil spill.
