New Orleans Police have placed a Tremé woman under arrest this evening for the second-degree murder of her estranged boyfriend.
Police say 31-year-old Monica Pollard fatally stabbed her boyfriend at around 1:50 p.m. this afternoon, during an argument inside her house in the 2200 block of Orleans Avenue. The victim made his way outside, collapsed, and was taken to a local hospital where he died.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says the resignation of longtime federal prosecutor Sal Perricone over anonymous and scathing website postings is justified by the facts of the case.
“I think Sal evidently has a very serious problem. And I think that some of the things that he has said and the way that he has done it has posed, you know, a huge problem that we have to work through. The US Attorney and the Justice Department said they’re going to do a full and thorough investigation. I take them at their word that they’re going to do that.”
The Department of Justice is investigating what the next step should be for a federal prosecutor who admitted posting comments online about cases involving his office. U.S. Attorney Jim Letten says the prosecutor has been removed from all matters discussed online.
