New Orleans to Auction 98 Abandoned Vehicles

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The city of New Orleans holds its second abandoned vehicle auction of 2012 on Thursday. The auction will have 98 vehicles for sale, all of which have been discarded on neighborhood streets or left unclaimed by residents with excessive parking fines and fees.

Bankruptcy Filings Drop in N.O. Area

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Bankruptcy filings in the New Orleans region are on the decline. New figures from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana show they dropped 9.5 percent in April compared with the same month a year ago. New Orleans CityBusiness reports there were 305 filings last month compared with 337 in April 2011.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for Eastern New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A boil water advisory has been issued for a large area of New Orleans east.

The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans says water pressure dropped in the area Tuesday night when a 30-inch water main broke about 11 p.m.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice for customers in an area bounded by Morrison Road, Hayne Boulevard, Downman Road and Bullard Road.

Repairs to Shut Bridge Across Industrial Canal

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Port of New Orleans officials say the Florida Avenue Bridge over the Industrial Canal will be closed much of the day on Thursday and Friday for repairs.

The work will require closing the bridge to vehicular traffic between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. both days.

Port officials say marine and rail traffic will not be affected.

New Orleans Agency Breaks Ground on 2 New Projects

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority has broken ground on a $2.7 million multi-family residential building in blight-stricken Central City and on an $8.7 million project to build a health clinic and storefront in another impoverished section of the city.

In Central City, NORA says it's working with builders to construct 10 condominium units on O.C. Haley Boulevard. There are efforts to bring stores and people back to the Central City neighborhood after years of neglect.
