8-year-old killed in fatal crash in New Orleans

Police say an 8-year-old boy was killed when a sport utility vehicle he was in lost control in a curve in an off ramp of Interstate 10 in eastern New Orleans.

The Times-Picayune reports that the boy was identified as Adrian Antoine III of New Orleans. Antoine was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and three other passengers remained in critical condition Sunday.

Houma contractor issued fraud summons

A Houma contractor was issued a summons on a fraud charge Wednesday for allegedly taking payments for more than a year on a home improvement project without completing the work.

Houma police tell The Courier that John Hampton Ward, 52, had been paid about $12,900 since March 2011 to build cabinets at a local home through his company, Hampton Cabinets.

Detectives said they issued Ward a summons for home improvement fraud after the unidentified resident complained on July 13.

Police: Photos helped ID alleged home invader

New Orleans police say photographs taken by neighbors as a man ran away after a home invasion in the French Quarter helped them make an arrest within a day.

Police say 31-year-old Ronnie Tolliver was booked earlier this week with home invasion, aggravated burglary and aggravated battery.

Investigators say Tolliver allegedly followed a man home about 1 p.m. on July 15, forced his way into the residence, then hit the man over the head with an unidentified object.

Ex-New Orleans cop pleads guilty in theft from nonprofit

A former New Orleans police detective has pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal funds from a nonprofit group that assists homeless families.

Federal prosecutors say 36-year-old Tiwana Alexander resigned from the department on the eve of her guilty plea Friday to a conspiracy charge.

Alexander faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

'Exterminator' pleads not guilty to drug charges

William "Billy" Bretherton, star of the A&E reality TV show "Billy the Exterminator," has pleaded not guilty to drug charges in his home state of Louisiana.

Bretherton and his wife, Mary, were arrested in June on drug possession charges in Bossier Parish when they surrendered to police on a warrant charging them with one count each of possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bayou Blue man dead after arrest in aided-suicide case

A Bayou Blue man charged with helping his wife commit suicide has been found dead in Houma with what Terrebonne Parish deputies say appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Courier reports that 69-year-old Charles Joseph Fanguy was found by deputies in the yard of a residence Thursday morning. He had been released on bond after his arrest on Wednesday.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said someone reported in June that Charles Fanguy had told acquaintances he had helped his wife end her life.

Betty Fanguy, who had been in poor health, died in May.
