President Obama Visits Venice Command Center
By Eileen Fleming
New Orleans, La. – President Obama says BP will pay for cleaning up its oil still flowing from the seabed a mile below the surface. But he says he has ultimate authority over the emergency.
"As president of the United States, I'm going to spare no effort to respond to this crisis as long as it continues. And we will spare no resource to clean up whatever damage is caused."
The president met with emergency response teams in the coastal community of Venice, Louisiana, for a briefing. The storms that kept him on the ground also stopped vessels from skimming the oil that's now shut down some areas vital to commercial fishing.
