More Testing Ordered at BP Well Site

By Eileen Fleming

New Orleans, La. – Retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen says pressure readings indicate there's no major breach, but levels aren't high enough to clearly show the well is intact under the sea floor.

"This is generally good news. I think we're to a point where there's enough uncertainty regarding what the meaning of the pressure is that we're seeing that we need to have due diligence moving forward. We need to be careful not to do any harm or create a situation that cannot be reversed."

Allen says BP will do more seismic tests on the surface around the well. A government vessel will use acoustic equipment to detect any methane leaks. Allen and BP say the additional testing could extend through the weekend.
