Times-Picayune Announces Cuts

The Times-Picayune, New Orleans’ only daily newspaper, is announcing major cutbacks. The Pulitzer Prize-winning paper will be printed only three days a week.

The Times-Picayune has announced it will be cutting back staff and printed copies to concentrate on delivering news online. The newspaper shared a Pulitzer Prize for its reporting on Hurricane Katrina in 2005. While the city remained without power and in chaos for days after the storm, reporters and photographers documented the devastation online.

Newspaper management says decisions are still being made on who will lose their jobs, and what salary cuts will be made for those who stay. Print edition cutbacks are expected to begin this fall.
