Isaac costs to La. government at $24M and counting

Gov. Bobby Jindal says the preparation and response to Isaac has cost state and local government more than $24 million so far.

And the costs are expected to continue climbing.

Jindal said Wednesday that state agencies have spent $14.7 million, at a rate of about $2.9 million a day. He says parish agencies have spent $9.5 million and counting.

"We expect that burn rate to increase significantly, especially as we start distributing commodities," he said.

The Republican governor has asked President Barack Obama for a disaster declaration that could allow federal reimbursement for government agencies' upfront storm costs, but that hasn't yet been granted.
