The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Association will be hosting free health screenings and counseling sessions. Al Sanders says the association is excited about the upcoming event. It will be their first gathering as a veteran outreach association.

"We really want to do all we can to help veterans because we know that they have been short changed on a lot of ends," Sanders says.

Sanders was inspired to join Volunteers of America because he says there was a great need in the veteran community. Sharri Jones, Case Worker for Volunteers of America, says most veterans don't want healthcare because they are not trusting of health units.

"We're trying to show them that we bring the van to you. We want you to see and we want you to understand that you need to take care of your health," Jones says.

The health screening will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on Wednesday, July 15 at the South Side Development Center.
