Baylor and Ole Miss face off on New Year’s Day in the 88th Annual Sugar Bowl at the Superdome. The Historic New Orleans Collection has been documenting this iconic football game for years, and brings us an interview with Coach Gene Stallings. A member of the Sugar Bowl Hall of Fame, Coach Stallings led the Alabama Crimson Tide in their 1993 bowl victory. Here, he reflects on his legendary career as a coach and a player.

Sarah Holtz covers local history. Her work has also aired on Houston Public Media, Northern California Public Media, KFAI, KTOO, KUNM, WCAI, WGBH, and WWOZ.
Mark Cave is an oral historian and senior curator at the Historic New Orleans Collection.
