Hans-Georg Heinemann
The Historic New Orleans Collection
Hans-Georg Heinemann

In 1960, a young Hans-Georg Heinemann was stationed in Huntsville, Alabama with the German military. On a road trip with his fellow soldiers, he arrived in New Orleans just in time for New Year's Eve festivities at the Deutsches Haus. In this edition of NOLA Life Stories, the Historic New Orleans Collection's oral history series, Heinemann reflects on his six-decade association with New Orleans' beloved German social club.
