French Market Cookbook Fair

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum will host a brand new cookbook fair at the French Market this Sunday, September 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event, held at the Farmers Market stage between Ursulines and Governor Nicholls Streets, is presented in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library as part of the Museum's Hungry in the South weekend. Cookbooks are a very important part of SoFAB’s mission, the museum says, representing the history of the foodways and beverage culture of their time and place.

Events include:

  • cookbook authors signing copies of their books
  • cooking demonstrations from authors and local restaurants throughout the day, including:
    • Laurie Triplette, Bayona’s Chef Susan Spicer, Janice Macomber, Broussard’s Chef Tory Stewart, Oschner’s Chef Marc Gilberti, and Chef Jay Ducote
  • a cookbook swap, where members of the public can bring their extra cookbooks to trade (one for one) with those extras left by others
  • used cookbooks for sale to benefit the SoFAB Culinary Library
  • a drop off site for cookbook donations to the SoFAB Culinary Library
  • “Meanwhile, Back At Café Du Monde… Life Stories About Food” presentation from Peggy Sweeney-McDonald and selected contributors
