The Listening Post Asks: What Are Your Thoughts On The Mayoral Election?

Nov 1, 2017

The next mayor of New Orleans will be decided in a runoff scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18. This month The Listening Post wanted to know what New Orleanians need from their leaders. We asked:

1) What do you want the next mayor to know about your life?

2) What are the most important issues in this election?

3) What kind of leader does New Orleans need? Give specifics.

We also got to speak with Mayor Mitch Landrieu for this edition of The Listening Post. Here's an excerpt from our interview:

Visit to see a complete list of the results. Here's some of our favorites:

1) I moved to Baton Rouge to go to grad school, and now I can't afford to move back home. My friends who lived in the LGD have seen their taxes SKYROCKET! And they have been forced to sell. Because wages have stagnated. People in the service industry are being pushed out of neighborhoods they have lived in for generations. Friends in my marching crew now I have to live in Arabi or Kenner, and public transport is practically nonexistent out there.

2) Jobs, economic development in areas other than the quarters and certain parts of uptown (including housing — blighted properties, affordability) and education.

3) One who can start working on issues immediately. One who are willing to listen to people and get views or comments. Not that he or she will agree on every issues that we bring but please let our voices be heard. And let's find common ground to make entire city better. Tired of same oh foolishness certain area get help and the poor poor is left behind every time thanks.
