Local Rolling Stones Fans Get What They Want

Thousands of Louisiana residents lined up downtown overnight to get tickets for the Rolling Stones performance at Jazz Fest in May. Organizers set aside 20,000 tickets for those with a state ID. The tickets cost almost $200 dollars, and the line was long.

The line stretched along the Plaza Level at the Superdome. Fans braved damp chilly conditions for the chance to buy tickets. A brass band struck up just as the ticket booths opened at 10 a.m.

Kerri Becker of New Orleans got there early to be first in line. “Yesterday afternoon at 2 p.m. we got out here," she says.

The line wasn't officially set to open until midnight.

“That was their rule, not mine," Becker says.

New Orleans is famous for knowing how to have a good time, and those who waited in line for tickets kept with that tradition.

“It was wonderful. We had a disco ball. We had a big BlueTooth speaker and we were playing a great play list all night," says Becker. "We had snacks. We had a bar. It was wonderful.”

A Louisiana ID allowed each person to buy two tickets to "Rolling Stones Thursday" at Jazz Fest on May 2nd. Event organizers said there will be a limit on the total number of tickets sold for that single day. With limited sales, the tickets are sure to be a hot commodity - but Kerri Becker has no plans to sell hers. “Absolutely not," Becker says. "They’re mine. It’s for me and my husband.”

Jazz Fest runs April 26th through May 5th. Tickets go onsale to the general public on Friday, January 18th at 10am.
