Public Schools Will Reopen Wednesday As Sally Sidesteps New Orleans

Sep 15, 2020

Public school buildings will reopen Wednesday after Hurricane Sally’s track shifted east Monday night. Students will resume distance learning and meal distribution will be available at participating schools, the district said in a statement released Tuesday morning.

Sally is expected to sidestep New Orleans and make landfall near the Alabama-Mississippi border late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

The first day of in-person classes, which was originally set for last Monday, will now be Thursday. All students in PreK through fourth-grade are expected to return to the classroom from Sept. 17 to Sept. 25 unless they opt for virtual learning. Older students are expected to return to the classroom in mid-October.
