Freezing temperatures and possible light snow are prompting schools to close Friday in several parishes.

Possible wintry weather is prompting several New Orleans-area schools to close Friday.

School districts across the area will be closed due to freezing temperatures, cold rain and maybe even a flurry or two.

No accumulation is expected, so there won’t be any snowball fights. But school officials do worry about slick road conditions affecting the morning commute. National Weather Service officials say areas of the Northshore will be under a winter weather advisory beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday.

Closures have been announced for the following schools/parishes:

St. Tammany Parish Schools

St. John the Baptist Parish Schools

St. James Parish Schools

Tangipahoa Parish Schools
