Saturday Night Jazz
Saturdays at 7 p.m.

Cooling it down on Saturday nights with a hopping mix of great jazz, all from your host Jack Hopke.

Saturday Night Jazz is New Orleans' longest-running jazz program, where Hopke's commitment to nurturing America's original art form is displayed each week in his keen admixture of new works with classics and standards, of young contributors with icons of the genre, and of light-hearted accessibility with rewarding complexity.

The show offers a welcoming familiarity occasionally edged with surprise.  It's a mostly mainstream approach that nonetheless acknowledges the contemporary influences of rock, hip-hop and classical composition.

Hopke has been deeply involved with jazz not only in radio, but also through his extensive music industry experience, during which he nurtured the careers of numerous, well-known jazz performers. Overall, he is knowledgeable, respectful and loving of his charge — jazz music — and his charges who perform it, and his genial, witty presentation allows the listener to share a warm intimacy with and easy enjoyment of musical communication.
