With seven weeks worth of data, New Orleans Health Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno said there’s “no indication” COVID-19 is spreading within the city’s K-12 schools.

New Orleans public schools reported six new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing the district’s apparent total to 43.

Tulane University announced Friday that students will be allowed to return for in-person classes this spring, but will still be subject to regular COVID-19 testing in a continued effort to control the spread of the virus.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell warned residents Thursday that failing to follow the city’s rules could land them a $500 fine from the police department.

New Orleans public schools announced Wednesday that it will offer free COVID-19 testing to students and staff even if they are asymptomatic. The district already provides rapid testing to symptomatic individuals through a mixture of mobile units, hospitals and urgent care facilities.
