October 17th marks the beginning of the 29th annual New Orleans Film Festival, which brings feature films and shorts to venues across the city. NolaVie’s David Benedetto invited the Film Society’s Executive Director, Fallon Young, into the studio for a preview of the festival.

When the New Orleans Film Festival was founded in 1989, it gave new filmmakers a place to screen their movies. 26 years later they’re still committed to that goal, but the festival has taken on new ambitions too. This year submissions are up nearly 60 percent and there's a chance a filmmaker could make their way to Hollywood’s famous red carpet.

People come from all over the world to experience traditional New Orleans music. But not everyone has that privilege. For those who can't make the trip, a new documentary may be the next best thing.  

When Darren Hoffman heard the song "Discipline Strikes Again" by Jason Marsalis, something clicked in his mind.

“When I heard this, it was one of the first times in many years that I was inspired to create a music video,” says Hoffman.

This week on Inside the Arts, it's one of the hottest events of the year for art lovers, as the Contemporary Arts Center kicks off Art for Arts' Sake this weekend. There will be citywide gallery openings, including Water, a body of work by internationally renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky, on view at the CAC.

Looking towards the upcoming New Orleans Film Festival,  actors David Jensen and Joe Chrest discuss their entry, King of Herrings. These are two of five men that met back when they attended LSU, but never had the chance to collaborate. We find out what it was like for them to finally make a movie together after 25 years.
