summer

Coolinary is a popular prix fixe promotion in August in New Orleans. The seafood stuffed eggplant at Brigtsen's Restaurant is dish on its Coolinary menu.

Blink and suddenly August is here. Summer is flying by once again. Where does the time go? But time is relative, and for New Orleans restaurants this is when time slows to a crawl.

Now that July is here, the staff at Classical 104.9 FM has put together 7 Summer-themed pieces of classical music to keep you company as the mercury – and the humidity – begin to rise…

All of these recordings are in our Classical 104.9 FM library, and can be heard on-air throughout the summer…

New Orleans Summer And Other Harsh Truths

Sep 1, 2016

When I left New Orleans as a young adult to pursue an education and later a career in other parts of America, I quickly realized that simply being from the 504 carried with it a certain exotic quality. “Wait,” new acquaintances would say, “you’re actually from New Orleans? I never thought that someone could, you know...grow up there…”

When it comes to summer in New Orleans, I feel a lot like Goldilocks.

Now calm down people.  I’m not talking about donning a blonde wig and sleeping in a row of bears’ beds.

I haven’t done that in years.

What I AM talking about is air conditioning.  Specifically, finding the right temperature for your home during those looooooong summer months when New Orleans turns into one big oven.

The way I see it, you have three choices.

As record-breaking temperatures sweep the nation, it's hard to keep anything cool, especially if the power goes out.

And, try as you might, it's hard to find health products — from prescription drugs to over-the-counter pain relievers — that don't caution against storage in high temperatures.
