This week on Thinking Outside the Book: Book conservators Sabrena Johnson and Sara White take us on a tour of the off-site facility for Tulane libraries, where overflow from the stacks is awaiting reader requests and books, papers, and posters stay very cool in the summer heat and books go to be repaired and restored.

This week on Inside the Arts, an intimate musical experience as the award-winning Lyrica Baroque chamber ensemble presents Opera Fusion, featuring Ravel's Piano Trio. Vocalists Paul Groves and Sarah Jane McMahon join the ensemble merging chamber music and arias from dramatic operas in a bold musical adventure. Cellist Daniel Lelchuk joins us for a chat.

Tulane University has opened a new health center inside the former Ruth’s Chris Steak House on North Broad Street. Up to 1,500 patients can receive care at the center every month — with or without insurance.

Tulane University is getting a $5 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help universities in areas prone to disasters establish education and development programs.

Ky Luu is executive director of Tulane's Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy. He says New Orleans has experience dealing in natural disasters, such as hurricanes, and man-made ones, including the BP oil spill. That experience will be shared with centers in Thailand and another in east Africa.
