New Orleans, La. – BP will try again to insert a pipe inside the leaking one on the seabed. Company Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles says the first attempt failed to connect the mile-long pipe to the surface ship that could take the oil diverted from the spill.
Secretary Salazar says the government is doing all it can to help BP.
"We feel the pain. We are frustrated. And we want to make sure that at the end of the day that no stone is left unturned relative to the effort that is concentrated on this matter"
Salazar says he gets briefings every morning on what's being done. Environmental experts are monitoring BP's use of chemical dispersants injected into the oil as it leaks underwater. It's a new use for the chemicals that are normally sprayed on the surface to break up the oil.
