New Orleans, La. – After winning the mayoral contest in the February primary, Landrieu got busy assembling 17 task forces for citizens' advice on issues ranging from criminal justice to social media. Landrieu is coming into the job as a career politician; his last post as lieutenant governor. His family is a political powerhouse in Louisiana. His sister, Mary, is a U.S. Senator. And his father, Moon Landrieu, was mayor of New Orleans in the 1970s. Nagin, by contrast, was first elected in 2002 on a pro-business platform. The former Cox Communications executive became a controversial national figure after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He defeated Mitch Landrieu the following year in that mayoral race. Term limits block Nagin from another four-year term. Landrieu ran this latest campaign touting his political experience and the desire to get citizens involved in public policy.
