Trade negotiations between Chinese and American officials began Monday in Beijing, with US officials hoping to ease Chinese tariffs on American products.  Those tariffs have hit Louisiana's soybean industry particularly hard.

Dr. Charles Boustany represented south Louisiana in Congress for over a decade. He’s teamed up with a non-partisan campaign called Tariffs Hurt the Heartland, opposed to the use of tariffs.

According to data released by the organization, $39 million in new retaliatory tariffs have been tacked on to Louisiana exports since the trade dispute began.

On this week's Capitol Access, Dr. Boustany discusses how tariffs are impacting Louisiana farmers and consumers and steps he'd like to see the Trump administration take to remedy the trade dispute.
