It’s August but artists are already planning for Luna Fete - the Arts Council’s public winter light show. Artists plan months ahead of the Fete.

Gabriel Barcia-Colombo is one of this year’s participants, and he is busy prepping for Luna Fete and other upcoming festivals, BUT, he is taking time out to guide artists interested in using light as a medium.

Barcia-Colombo is an international multimedia artist producing video sculptures, immersive performances and large scale projections. He was commissioned to be the first digital artist to show work at the New Fulton Terminal Stop with the MTA Arts & Design program in New York City. His work has been featured in the Victoria & Albert Museum as well as Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Gabe is a New York Foundation for the Arts grant awardee and faculty member at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Originally from the West Coast, Gabe is based in Brooklyn now. He will lead a workshop for artists interested in Luna Fete technologies this Sunday, August 4th, 2:00-5:30 pm. For information, visit the Arts Council of New Orleans’ website. Follow Gabe at @gabebc on social media platforms.

Karl Lengel sat down with Gabe to talk about his work and the technology.
