Japan Relaxes Arms Export Ban

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says his country should adopt a more proactive security policy to respond to China’s expanded military and the North Korean nuclear threat.

As part of that new strategy, Japan will ease its self-imposed arms export ban. The relaxation will allow Japan to jointly develop arms with its allies and give its defense industry access to new markets and technology.

The BBC’s Rupert Wingfield-Hayes joins s Jeremy Hobson from Tokyo with details.
