The Dominican Republic sends the most foreign-born players to Major League Baseball of any country. Twenty years ago when Pedro Martinez — who grew up in the Dominican Republic — was pitching for the Red Sox, he founded a charity to help young people there. Now, the Pedro Martinez Foundation is planning to build a charter school in the Dominican Republic that will teach young ballplayers job skills in case they never make it to the majors.

Here & Now‘s Lisa Mullins talks with Pedro’s wife, Carolina Martinez (@MrsCaroMartinez), who runs the foundation.
