Noted Chicago architect Gunny Harboe is speaking at Tulane University on Thursday about the complex $25 million restoration he led on a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece – the Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. The 1908 structure is one of many historic preservation projects he’s directed. Others are the Art Deco landmark Chicago Board of Trade, and the Illinois Supreme Court. But preserving Wright’s work is a specialty.
He spoke with WWNO’s Eileen Fleming about his life’s work.
The Louisiana Architecture Foundation and Tulane University’s Masters of Historic Preservation Studies are sponsoring Harboe’s lecture Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freeman Auditorium. He will be reviewing how Unity Temple was restored to its original appearance while giving it new life for its congregation.
