HOW TO VOTE

Are you eligible?

To vote in Louisiana, you must be:

  • Registered by the deadline
  • At least 18 years old
  • A U.S. citizen
  • A legal resident
  • Not under an order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony
  • Not judicially declared mentally incompetent

Are you registered?

The Louisiana Secretary of State's website has a voter portal you can use to check whether you’re registered to vote.

  1. To find your voting information, select "Search by Voter" 
  2. Enter your first and last name, zip code, birth month and year 
  3. Click "Submit," and the portal should pull up your information 

If you missed the deadline, you won’t be able to vote, but you can register for the next election online. If you’ve moved, changed your name, address or party affiliation, you should notify the registrar of voters in your parish or make changes online.


Can you vote by mail?

Unless you’re a military or overseas voter, you’ll need to have a specific reason to vote absentee. If you’re eligible, you can request an absentee ballot through the state’s online voter portal or you may print and mail an application directly to your registrar of voters. Disabled, military and overseas voters may be able to get their absentee ballot electronically. For more information, they can contact their registrar of voters.


How to vote early 

If you’re registered to vote, you should be able to vote early.

Designated polling places will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for each day of early voting.

What should I bring to the polls?

You’ll need to have a current and valid photo ID with your signature.

Options include:

  • Louisiana driver’s license
  • Louisiana special ID 
  • LA Wallet digital driver’s license
  • Military ID
  • Some other generally recognized picture ID 

If your ID does not have your picture or signature, you can still cast your vote by signature on a voter affidavit.

ORLEANS

Garden District Security District

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the City of New Orleans be authorized to impose and collect an annual fee not to exceed nineteen mills (subject to the homestead exception) on each parcel of land located within the Garden District's Security District ("District"), delineated by La. R.S. 33:9091.2(B) as the area bounded by and including both sides of Carondelet Street, Jackson Avenue, Magazine Street, and Louisiana Avenue, for eight (8) years, beginning January 1, 2027 and ending December 31, 2034, which fee (estimated to be $852,000 in the first year of collection) shall be set by the resolution of the District board of commissioners and used exclusively, subject to a 1% City collection fee, to promote and encourage security within the District?


Lake Forest Estate Improvement District

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the City of New Orleans levy an annual fee on each parcel of taxable real property located within the Lake Forest Estates Improvement District ("District"), the boundaries of which are coterminous with those of the Lake Forest Estates Subdivision, in the amount of $550, for seven years, beginning January 1, 2027 and ending December 31, 2033, which is estimated to generate $99,000 annually, to be used exclusively for the purpose of promoting and encouraging the beautification, security, and overall betterment of the District, except for a 1% City collection fee, and provided that, if used to fund additional law enforcement or security personnel and services, such personnel and services shall be supplemental to and not in lieu of those provided by the New Orleans Police Department?


JEFFERSON

City of Harahan Millage Renewal

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the City of Harahan, State of Louisiana (the "City"), continue to levy a special tax of 5 mills on all the property subject to taxation within the City (an estimated $557,600 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037, for the sole and only purpose of funding and supporting payroll, benefits and expenses to support maintaining valuable Officers and Administration staff of the Harahan Police Department?


ST. TAMMANY

Law Enforcement District Millage Renewal

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the Law Enforcement District of St. Tammany Parish, State of Louisiana (the "District"), be authorized to continue to levy a special tax of 4.31 mills on all property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $13,638,600 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037, for the purpose of providing funding for law enforcement?


Parishwide Mosquito Abatement District Millage Renewal

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Abatement District (the "District"), continue to levy a 2.95 mills tax on all the property subject to taxation in the District for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037 (the "Tax")(an estimated $9,335,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for the purpose of purchasing, maintaining and operating machinery, facilities and equipment necessary or useful in the eradication, abatement or control of mosquitoes and other arthropods of public health importance and maintaining an adequate administrative and operational staff for the District?


City of Slidell Millage Continuation 1

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the City of Slidell, State of Louisiana (the "City"), continue the levy and collection of a four and forty-five hundredths (4.45) mill tax on all property subject to taxation in the City (an estimated $1,520,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) (the "Tax"), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2026 and ending with the year 2035, for the purpose of maintaining and operating sewerage works and facilities within and for the City?


City of Slidell Millage Continuation 2

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall the City of Slidell, State of Louisiana (the "City"), continue the levy and collection of a four and thirty-seven hundredths (4.37) mill tax on all property subject to taxation in the City (an estimated $1,490,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) (the "Tax"), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2026 and ending with the year 2035, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining garbage disposal works and refuse and garbage collection and disposal systems within and for the City?


Fire Protection District No. 2 Tax Renewal

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall Fire Protection District No. 2, St. Tammany Parish, State of Louisiana (the "District"), continue to levy a 20.62 mills tax (the "Tax") on all the property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $7,466,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2030 and ending with the year 2039, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and/or operating fire protection facilities and equipment in and for the District, including the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes and providing services to injured or ill persons in emergency situations as permitted by law, provided that a portion of the Tax proceeds is required to be contributed to state and statewide retirement systems as provided in R.S. 11:82?


Recreation District No. 11 In-Lieu Millage

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 11, State of Louisiana (the "District"), levy a special tax of 9.26 mills (the "Tax") on all property subject to taxation in said District (an estimated $1,127,100 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), for a period of 20 years, beginning with the year 2026 and ending with the year 2045, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining or operating parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and other recreational facilities in said District, together with the necessary furnishings and equipment therefor, said tax to be in lieu of and completely replace the current 9.26 mills tax authorized to be levied pursuant to an election held on November 13, 2021?


Recreation District No. 12 Millage Renewal

BALLOT LANGUAGE: Shall Recreation District No. 12 of the Parish of St. Tammany, State of Louisiana (the ''District"), continue to levy a special tax of 10 mills on all property subject to taxation in the District (an estimated $505,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2028 and ending with the year 2037, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining or operating parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and other recreational facilities in the District, together with the necessary furnishings and equipment therefor?
