New Orleans, LA – I'd like to introduce you to the WWOOF'ers. Founded in England in 1971 to stoke the flames of a growing organic movement, the Worldwide Opportunities for Organic Farms (or WWOOF'ers) are now in Louisiana matching volunteers to sustainable farms. Hutch and Prentiss McClendon own one of those farms in Gurley, Louisiana. They now live with a revolving community of agricultural volunteers. A far cry from the pop culture image of disengaged youth, WWOOF'ers who work for Oakland Organics are young, energetic and knowledgeable. You can meet them at many local markets. As supply struggles to keep up with demand, the WWOOF'ers will help to grow us the next generation of organic farmers. For the WWNO Farmers Market Minute, here's to the WWOOFers and this is Richard McCarthy.
