New Orleans, La. – That's the crowd at the Ninth Hole at TPC Louisiana golf course, cheering on players competing for a (m) million-dollar payout for the winner. There are 156 players on the roster, with the championship round set for Sunday.
PGA spokesman Mark Williams says the Zurich is a popular tournament for the players.
It's also draws 145,000 visitors, many who pay top dollar to sample the best of New Orleans cooking.
Tommy Cvitanovich said the Louisiana Hospitality Association raises money by offering traditional favorites from top restaurants.
One of the benefactors is Fore (f-o-r-e) Kids, which has received $18 dollars so far for activities and programs in the New Orleans area. Another is the Bayou District Foundation, which is funding golf at City Park as well as housing and education projects.
A newcomer to the Zurich is NASA Stennis Space Center. Spokesman Chris McGee says NASA wanted a forum to show off what it's all about.
Tickets are available for $25 each, with children 17 and younger admitted free.
Music also plays a part. Better than Ezra plays Saturday, Chee-Weez on Sunday, but not until the players are finished.
Meantime, the crowds contain themselves to more restrained displays when players impress.
