Occupy NOLA Ousted From Duncan Plaza

The Occupy New Orleans protest no longer occupies Duncan Plaza. A federal judge allowed the city to clear the encampment outside City Hall.

The federal judge refused to issue an order sought by Occupy NOLA. The group has been staying at the park since early October as an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement for economic equality.

Police cleared the park last week, hours before a scheduled hearing in federal court on the group's motion to remain. The judge countered by ordering the city to let the encampment stay another week, as long as it complied with safety rules, such as no open flames or extended electrical wiring.

The camp that once housed about 150 people was much smaller when it returned. One protester was reportedly arrested, and another cited for staying past the city's 10:30 p.m. curfew now in force.
