New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is getting a pretty good grade from residents. A recent University of New Orleans survey finds him getting a robust approval rating.
The UNO survey conducted in February shows Mayor Landrieu with a 70 percent approval rating. UNO political science professor Ed Chervenak says the mayor finds himself in a strong position coming up to a re-election campaign.
“That mean that the people have the mayor’s back if there’s any type of political controversy, and it also means that he still has significant political capital in making decisions and implementing his programs.”
The finding comes from 552 interviews of residents by cell phone and landline. It has a 4.2 percent margin of error. Landrieu’s approval rating inched up one percent from a 2012 survey, but lower than the 75 percent found just after his election in 2010.
The New Orleans City Council received a 53 percent approval rating.
