Reaction to the deadly terror attack on the French City of Nice has registered in New Orleans. The French consul general was at a Bastille Day celebration as news of the attack was breaking.
Bastille Day is the French version of the Fourth of July. The beachfront festivities in Nice were breaking up when a truck plowed through the crowd, killing more than 80 people.
The consul general of France in New Orleans — Gregor Trumel — spoke of the attack as he attended the annual Bastille Day party at the Great Hall in the New Orleans Museum of Art
“I wish to be strong, all together. Our democracy, our values, freedom, equality, fraternity are target. So that’s why I really want you with dignity and a sense, of course — Really want to — to celebrate France,” he said.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu also issued statements about the attack, expressing thoughts and prayers with the people of France.
