'South Pacific' Tackles Tough Issues with Musical Style

South Pacific is an old-time, yet modern love story. It's similar to Romeo and Juliet. Girl meets boy. They fall in love, but their love is forbidden. Love is forbidden due to deeply held prejudices.  StraussTheatreCenter presents Rodgers andHammerstien's South Pacific: In Concertwith the Monroe Symphony Orchestra.

Director Corey Trahan  says the performance will be a great way to raise funds for the Strauss Theatre Center and the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. "South Pacific was already chosen for our summer production and we wanted to expand it beyond Strauss. We wanted to include the Symphony and the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council is producing it."

The City of Monroe has given the Strauss a grant that allows 70 patrons to view the matinee performances of the show. Patrons must be students, seniors or low-income citizens.

There will be a director's gala immediately following the opening night production. Visit the Strauss Theatre Center to find out more information.
