‘He Was Like A Real Brother To Me’: Remembering Deshaun Singleton

Nov 6, 2019

Our student-produced series “This Is Why It Matters” is about the people our community has lost to gun violence.

In episode 4, George Washington Carver High School junior Marneisha Gilmore interviews her friend and classmate, Jacorey Warner, about Deshaun Singleton, who was shot and killed in the middle of their sophomore year.

Jacorey calls Deshaun his brother, even though they aren’t biological siblings. They grew up together, playing and “ribbing”, or teasing each other. Jacorey says Deshaun loved to dance, even in the middle of the grocery store.
