Inside The Arts: Gilded, Broadway's Betsy Wolfe, Germaine Bazzle Steppin' Past To Present

This week on Inside the Arts, internationally acclaimed tenor Brenden Gunnell is headed to New Orleans to perform Gilded, a new song cycle by rising star composer Tucker Fuller. The work was written specifically for Gunnell who will be accompanied by the Polymnia String Quartet in concert at the Marigny Opera House. Gilded, is inspired by both the wandering lieder of the Romantic era and today's free-market sensibility, with text by award-winning poet Megan Levad.

Brenden Gunnell will also perform a Lieder recital at the University of New Orleans as part of the UNO School of the Arts Musical Excursions series. He will be accompanied by Hendrik Heilmann, pianist with the Berlin Philharmonic Chamber group. Composer Tucker Fuller joins us in our studio with concert arranger Chris Merritt.

Then, Broadway favorite Betsy Wolfe known for her performances in Waitress, The Last Five Years and Falsettos makes her New Orleans debut bringing her first cabaret show, All Bets Are Off, to Le Petit Theatre. We catch up with the soprano/actress by phone.

And, a new exhibit, Steppin' Past to Present, opens at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation Gallery. It chronicles the musicians and artists who have crossed paths over the years with the Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre. Renowned jazz vocalist Germaine Bazzle is here with artistic director Lula Elzy.

Airs Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m., Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., and Thursdays at 8:45 a.m.
